EIGHTH INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM INTHE TECHNOLOGY AND THE MINE PROBLEM SERIES TECHNOLOGIES FOR MINE WARFARE EXPEDITIONARY WARFARE AND PORT SECURITY 6-8 MAY 2008 Naval Postgraduate School, Monterey, California This SITREP is provided by the Symposium Organizing Committee, RDML Rick Williams, USN (Ret), Chair and General Chair of the Symposium. Please note that the sub-title of the Symposium recognizes the natural expansion of the scope of the Symposium to include aspects of power projection from the sea and how the threats to port and river infrastructure are being recognized under the rubric, Port Security. We are extending invitations to several commanding figures who, we believe, will set the stage for discussion of response to operational needs. At this stage contacts have been made and calendars are being adjusted so it is a little early to disclose commitments. At this Eighth Symposium we are trying an innovation. Workshops are being added that will take a senior commander's statement of need and focus interested symposium attendees to engage and discuss the real and present problem. Here, again, the planning process is just beginning; but responses so far have been very enthusiastic. Attendees are urged to note the Registration on Monday, May 5, 2008, will be at the Quarterdeck in Herrmann Hall at NPS. That will be accompanied by a no host reception. Members of SCOT are advised that the meeting originally scheduled for Wednesday evening will be on Monday evening instead. This change is necessitated by our scheduling the MINWARA reception at the Monterey Bay Aquarium on Wednesday evening. We promise early posting on the web-site as details and participants become firm; and we believe you will not be disappointed. For the Organizing Committee Albert M. Bottoms |
